This is a Lionel 497 Vintage O Operating Coaling Station from 1953-58. This neat accessory is part of Lionel‘s long line of coal loading and unloading accessories. The 497 features both loading and unloading action. First, the 497 will automatically unload a 3459 or 3469 coal dump car. Then, the bin rises to the top of the tower and dumps the coal into the tower. Lastly, the coal is dropped back into the waiting car at the flip of a lever. It measures approximately 10" inches long by 6.5" inches wide by 10" inches tall. This is a really neat vintage item to add to your collection!
The loader shows scratches and paint loss throughout various sections of the base and body. Some of the metal hardware on the loader has rusted. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The instruction manual is not included. The original box is not included.
